It seems to be difficult to find out the root cause of the problem why because you have not provided very less details regarding the computer of yours. so tell me about the system configuration of the computer of yours. Do you have completed the installation successfully? Do you have got any error message on the screen while doing installation of the operating system on the computer.

Re: Grub is unable to boot CentOS, hangs at the Grub prompt

I am suspecting that the Grub is unable to find out the /boot/grub/grub.conf on the computer. So let me know file /etc/fstab. Also you should execute the below mentioned command on the terminal and let me know about the results.
    Code:
    fdisk -l
    blkid | sort
you should execute the command on the terminal and post the output of the same over here.

Re: Grub is unable to boot CentOS, hangs at the Grub prompt

I am suggesting the following instruction which you should use to fix the problem of yours.
    • You should make the hard disk of yours as Master rather than that of making the same as Slave.
    • Now you should make the hard disk as first boot device from the BIOS.
    • Now boot into rescue mode and chroot and simply swap the instance of the hd0 and hd1.
    • Now you should reinstall the Grub to the /dev/sd.

After doing the same you should reboot the computer of yours.

Let me know whether the steps which are provided in the previous post helped you out or not. If it did not working then you should use the following command on the grub prompt and let me know whether it is working or not.
    Code:
    find /grub/stage1
I am hoping that it will help you out to get the requirement of yours.

Re: Grub is unable to boot CentOS, hangs at the Grub prompt

I am sure that the Grub is unable to find out the stage 2 on the computer. The Grub file is written on the boot/grub directory on root file system and then /boot is mounted over the same. Also you should use the below mentioned command on the terminal and let me know whether it is working or not. You should copy and paste the below mentioned command on the terminal.
    Code:
    ls -lF /boot /boot/grub
