Hi guys & girls,
Long-time reader, first time poster here.
Usually I'm able to find what I want for myself, but in this case I'm in over my head and could use some help.
I manage a computerpark with all WinXP SP3 computers.
Windows Updates are being pushed out by WSUS 3.1 (v. 3.2.7600.226).
Recently, I noticed a large amount of computers which were lacking updates.
The main problem are the updates KB980182 and KB2497640.
KB980182 is an old one (MS10-018) which was already installed on most computers, KB2497640 is more recent (MS11-018).
After (succesfully) installing KB2497640, clients are prompting for KB980182 again. This update installs succesfully too, but after restart KB2497640 is offered again. And so on...
So far, I've been unable to pinpoint the issue.
Windowsupdate.log does not show any information about these updates themselves (as expected), but the KB-logfiles show some strange things.
Both update logs show a bunch of lines with 'fist condition failed' and 'second condition failed' at the end, both updates are showing the error :
2.312: KB980182 installation did not complete.
2.312: Update.exe extended error code = 0xf201
5.703: KB2497640 installation did not complete.
5.703: Update.exe extended error code = 0xf201
I've tried the basic stuff so far:
-disabling firewall
-deleting softwaredistribution folder
-manual installation, just to see if the updates take on this way, but they're installed and prompting for reboot as from WSUS.
-making sure html file association is Internet Explorer
-a whole lot of other things, which I'm forgetting now, since I've been working this issue so hard & long now.
-tried to call MS Support (hoping WU support was free) but they tried to charge me $299...
I've included an export of both KB logfiles for today.
Any help would be highly appreciated!
