What some comparision info between RedHat vs CentOS

Hi, my question is this is a server at the company I work for HP ProLiant ML350 G5, now has Windows Server 2003 R2, OS now want to change more specifically to a Linux distro. In the official website of HP have drivers for RHEL 5x, my question is since CENTOS is a clone of RHEL, will those same drivers I used to when installing the CENTOS. I also need some comparison between CentOS and other operating systems. There are other more open source systems that you can work on a server level which might work really well.

That's right, the drivers they have on the HP site for redhat 5.x Centos 5x works for so you have to worry. The price of redhat does not seem excessive, part of that, if you buy a subscription to support you are the one who can claim if your hardware is not recognized proliant 100% in redhat. However if you are on centos is also a completely valid option. In proliant sometimes I have trouble with recognizing smart array controllers with SAS disks with drivers hp page work correctly.

CentOS is a clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS is Red Hat Enterprise is the same code for the operating system only change the logos. The differences between the two are CentOS is free to use Red Hat Enterprise has to pay an annual subscription entitles you to technical support and download updates. Since several months ago and you are using in our server operating systems Ubuntu and CentOS, one of which focuses our web applications and the second virtual machines.

With regard to virtualization have found it easier to do it in CentOS that in Ubuntu. CentOS Kernel provides the integration of Xen and paravirtualization allows full virtualizacion, both with excellent results. As long as the hardware has the possibility of virtualization and / or the Guest operating system is prepared to operate in that way. Most Microsoft operating systems are not prepared to run under Xen. As an alternative to Xen, you can easily install the version of VMWare Server, but is highly recommended to first install the CentOS kernel without Xen.

It is important to know the value added provided by publishers of commercial Linux distributions. Red Hat keeps track of every major release of its products for 7 years from the date availability (GA) software and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for 5 years for software JBoss Enterprise. GA) software and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for 5 years for software JBoss Enterprise. Thus, the client may continue to receive support services and maintenance for at least 7 years after the release of a major release (and for 5 years with respect JBoss Enterprise), which prevents it from moving to a new version then it does not need it. Note that Red Hat publishes major releases every 18 to 24 months.
