how to modify the start menu on windows 7

I'm trying to modify the start menu on windows 7 I've downloaded programs in the past on xp like the alienware skin but I want to make my own and looking to find out where the system files are to modify be nice for a step by step to get to the right folder thanks

Well, you can find the Start Menu folder under C:\Users\<your user name>\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. Make sure you have marked "show hidden files" as the folder Appdata is hidden files. You can also go through some articles already present on this forum regarding the same.
