Sound problems developed after an ineffective install of Amarok. I could not obtain alsa to utilize digital as it reserved defaulting to analogue regardless of what I did. Attempted the alsamixer however no achievement. Too many problems were surfacing so I reinstalled Linux Mint. Took simply 2 hours to place the whole thing back together as well as audio is rock-solid again.

You have to do the whole thing recommended however while you choose Benchmark 1.0 Digital Stereo; and rebooted the PC, the setting changed to Internal Audio Analogue Stereo. I as well get a 3rd choice to set Sound to both analogue and digital. This was not at all a choice before the problem began. The pavucontrol recognized the Gnome volume control card.
