How to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6

Long it has been running ... I read the news that Linux distributor Red Hat maintains its server operating system, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL 5) for over three years with updates and patches - and will continue to do so. Nevertheless, the time has now come with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL 6) a new version to bring to market. I have worked on it, but in higher school. So, I am not having any ideas about installing it. Thought that someone hanging out there will help me. Please tell me how to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6? Any other information related to the topic would be grateful.

The server operating system is RHEL traditional data centers and "big" home servers. For example, RHEL characterized by a high scalability, and offers multi-platform support. Besides the architecture x86, x64, POWER and IBM System z supports RHEL 5 also Intel's Itanium . In the new version of RHEL 6 is the support of IA64 away, however. For RHEL 6 now managed far more processors and memory. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 if there is a RHN registration as an evaluation version. The distributor provides two ISO images are available. A "Network Install and Recovery 'version and a general DVD. These are available for both x86 and x86_64 architectures. The smaller version weighs about 200 MB and the DVD is great, depending on the architecture 2.7 and 3.2 GB. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is also responsible for the architecture System z (IBM mainframe) and IBM Power (64-bit). You can use the operating system in two ways to install. Elegant and equipped with more features is the graphical installation wizard. The text-based installer is rudimentary but it works well. If possible, we will choose a rule for the graphical version.

Red Hat does not distinguish between more images for desktops / workstations and servers . All packages are included on the DVD and you choose during installation to install the software packages you. During the software selection, the wizard provides some selected scenarios. You have the choice between the base server, database server, Web server, virtual host, desktop, software development workstation and Minimal. Depending on the choice of playing the Installation Wizard to the appropriate software packages. These are not set in stone. You can even during the selection of the scenario further highlight packages, or install them on the appropriate channels and repositories. Although the main application is a desktop computer, so you can still install a web or database server software.

As a file system is RHEL 6 now on ext4. Thus, the operating system supports large files. In addition, compared to ext3 ext4 faster and fixed in the allocation of space. Red Hat recommends ext4 file system as standard. As a further innovation to support the XFS file system is observed, which was originally developed by Silcon Graphics. It supports file systems up to 16 files and up to eight exabytes. An exabyte is approximately one million terabytes. The developers also have brought back to NFS, and support for IPv6 has been improved. Very pleasant it is striking that the network card (s) and the installation wizard can configure about. Especially if you have a minimum or a server installation without a graphical interface to make, address is how to configure, for example, fixed IP is very simple. It is not a "killer feature", but one thing that, for example, when installing an Ubuntu server sucks something. This can be during the installation process, not a fixed IP address assigned, but this is assigned by DHCP server. If the administrator wants a fixed IP address, it must assign them manually or instruct the DHCP server accordingly. You may have already decided during the import of the operating system if you want to encrypt the system by default. The password must be at least eight characters, or fails to comply with the request to the encryption software. New in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, is that a backup can create password. If you forget the original password and can no longer find that you have no possibilities to produce the data again. Means of backup password can manage all data, including root medium, read out.

If you have configured the partitions, the software chosen, time zone and root password is assigned, the system begins with the installation. Depending on the selection, this will take some time. Once this process is complete, the system requires a reboot. After an installation, the operating system is welcome and you can perform additional configuration steps. Red Hat or Fedora connoisseurs, this is not unknown. You now have the option to create a user, which is interesting especially for the desktop version. An unwritten Linux-/UNIX-Gesetz is that you do not work by default as root. In the user screen you can also decide whether you are a network want to use login. In the next screen you will then decide whether the operating system via an NTP server to synchronize the time.
