Screen flickering issue of Ubuntu 10.10

At starting I have installed Windows Vista in my system but I was suffering with the problem of excessive slow performance that’s why I have uninstalled Windows and I have installed Ubuntu 10.10. In that I have suffered with the screen flickering problem frequently on my screen. Although I have tested my system by installing Linux I found that it also reveals this same problem. So please if you have any idea that can solve my trouble then reply me. Every reply is appreciable.

Re: Screen flickering issue of Ubuntu 10.10

Hello! Friends, I was also suffering with the same issue but the difference is that I am having this issue with Ubuntu 10.4. Then I found the solution that I have downloaded the new driver and I have copied it into the folder of usr>lib>xorg>modules>drivers but before that you have to make a backup of these sis_drv.so from the distribution. After that you should start “sudo stop gdm” from the option of konsole and you be seeing that your trouble is solved.

Friends I have similar matter, but not sure if it will work for you or not. The flicker I'm meeting looked to be connected with compiz and the cube setup that I have installed. Ran 10.04 have veto troubles, once upgraded to 10.10 one out of the two screens that I have walk off vacant for a few second all the time I use to open a new application, it use to spin my cube, or occasionally while changing among applications. It is not a compact roller, but very irritating. This is my key device appliance at work, and a clear install would hurt to execute as I have my complete device setting set up on this Ubuntu box.

Re: Screen flickering issue of Ubuntu 10.10

I have suffered the same trouble with my Dell Laptop of flickering screen. But I have handled this issue on my Dell Latitude E4310 just by altering an option in grub. Try out this solution see that it might work for you as it does for me.
Alter the following line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= "quiet splash" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i815.powersave= 0 " and after that you should update the grub as root update-grub. And then you should restart the system. All these alteration will be accessible if you are login as administrator in your system.
