Hello, can anyone advice me on the steps to set c: parition as the active/primary boot sector, please ?
Background:
1 My notebook single hardisk is partition into 2 - C: and D:
2 Windows XP home edition;
3 It was booted with C: as the primary,active, boot partition. OS also installed in C:
4 During one re-setup with Windows XP setup disk, I deleted the C: partition, re-create the partition and formatted it. I did not pay attention - somehow the primary active was shifted to D:
After re-installing, during one file maintenance, I found boot.ini in D: and thought it dun serve any purpose. I removed it and my notebook cannot boot !
Now I have restored the boot.ini in D:. But seeking ways to re-instate C: as the primary active boot paritition.
More info :
With diskpart (Microsoft DiskPart version 5.1.3565) :
=====================================
DISKPART> list disk
Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
-------- ---------- ------- ------- --- ---
Disk 0 Online 112 GB 0 B
DISKPART> select disk 0
Disk 0 is now the selected disk.
DISKPART> list partition
Partition ### Type Size Offset
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 Extended 29 GB 8033 KB
Partition 2 Logical 29 GB 8064 KB
Partition 3 Primary 82 GB 29 GB
=====================================
aa. Why does disk part shows 2 partition of 29GB when physically for the same C-parition (this is the OS partiton) ? It is a HP notebook.
bb. I have bootsector.exe ready. Just not sure how to use. Would you list down the step for me.
