First find the drivers for your graphics card and then follow the tutorial on the official site of Backtrack 4. For info my video card is an Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT, so I can help you more easily if you have a nvidia!! According to me its an issue of the graphics card. I am sure that the problem will get fixed once you reinstall the graphic card. In addition and good luck, do not hesitate to ask if your sake!!!

    • Frame buffer 800x600
    • No Swap
    • Safe Mode
    • Live CD Persistent
    • Text Mode
    • Graphical Mode from Ram
    • white screen for all at the command start.

Otherwise, you tried to install compiz via your favorite package manager? In addition, if it's to the Desktop, Ubuntu (desktop, all that is traditional) is quite sufficient. The info ~ ~ CFL speaks, error messages, symptoms, descriptions More precisely as "unable to launch ...". For example, in the case of ccsm, try to run it through a terminal, if its not working at least you'll have an error message that it contains useful information.

Have you tried the command nvidia-settings. Yet the Nvidia 177.80 driver is compatible with my Nvidia 8600M GT graphics card from Nvidia site. I have a theory that said that the screen 14 "from my Asus F8SV is not recognized by the driver, I mean that an incompatibility between the card and the screen is at the origin as Mandriva - so the driver - can not drive the LCD (1440 * 900) and thus introduce myself properly the config mini.

The nvidia driver is perfectly capable of a resolution greater than 600x800 but apparently it is not loaded tries through XFdrake by first selecting the driver by it own. Leave to remain initially 800x600 and once used the NVidia drivers again XFdrake (or nvidia-setting) to find a suitable screen resolution.

Was the following error encountered. You May Need to update your configuration to solve this.
    Code:
(EE) NVIDIA (0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
    (EE) NVIDIA (0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen (0) found, drank none Have a usable configuration
You could watch what packages are installed (rpm-qa | grep nvidia) and also what kernel (uname-r).
