I also had the same problem and I able to fix this problem by performing following steps. You have to just delete the Preferences list from your computer to do this.
1.Just delete the apple.iPhoto.plist from Preferences and then restart your computer.

You have to delete the iMovie's preference file to fix this problem. You can do this in the following ways.
1.First close all the application along with iMovie.
2.Now go to the following location:
    YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie8.plist
3.Now just drag the plist file to the trash.
    4.Now restart your computer.
5.When you start iMovie, it will create new list.

3.Choose particular file and make a copy of it.
    4. Now open file with BBEdit.
5.Now go to find option and type in ">-" then click "Find All" . Then you will get following output.
    Code:
    <integer>-1</integer>, or this: <real>-0.47999998927116394</real>.

    Re: iMovie 09 not responding

From your information it seems that your iMovie application is get corrupted or get damaged and that's why you are getting this problem. I think your most of the preference files may get corrupted and due to this your iMovie application is not working. In this case you have to reinstall your iMovie application to fix this problem. Just download and install new version of iMovie application in your computer.
