The problem basically seems with the driver for the graphic card that you have installed. It may be that the drivers has some issues and hence it is not able to work out well for you. In order to make the things work out or process well it is essential that you check out by getting another copy of the drivers or application that helps in making the device to perform. So look out for the thing.

there is a possibility that the driver you have for your graphic card is not suitable or compatible for the operating system you use. So in order to make the things work out well it is essential that you check out for the compatible tool that may help you to get the device work or function well. I hope you may get to a better conclusion then.

You may get another way to solve the issue. Try to boot the system under a functional mode and then check out for the same. Can you please try booting with i915.modeset=0 added to grub and see if there are any issues with that? The developes are looking at defaulting 8xx series GPU's to that option which should fix your issue and your feedback would be appreciated. Do check out.

Another alternative or way through which you can sort the issue is by following the steps as given below that I followed:

    • Boot XUbunt from HDD.
    • Now Press Ctrl-Alt-F2 to go to 2nd virtual console.
    • Just issue sudo apt-get update followed by sudo apt-get dist-upgrade.
    • The Upgrade took about 10-15 minutes.
    • Reboot after upgrade.
    • Got a nice stable XUbunt login window.
