If you are trying to use the user name and password with xp then do not do it because the xp operating system do not require that it because it only support Simple File Sharing. Just check for the guest account on the window xp operating system then check for the password is present there or not because if it is there then remove it and reboot your computer system. This will help you to access the files.

I will suggest you to check some group policy settings. Because Windows XP Home does not have the Group Policy editor, You can use the NTRights, which is included in Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit for reseting the restrictions.

    1. You have download the resource kit from the internet and
    2. After that double click on the file which you have download and extract it on you computer system or it will be better to extract the "Ntrights.exe" to the C: partition
    3. After that go to the command prompt
Then type the following command “C:\ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u guest”
    4.

    3. Click Start, click Run, type CMD and press ENTER.

    4. In the DOS prompt window, please input the following commands and press ENTER at the end of each line:

    C:\ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u guest
    5. This will solve you issue.

I will suggest you to do the following thing for accessing the file.
    1. Place all computers in the identical workgroup.
    2. Place the network location to Home or Work.
    3. See that your firewall permit files and printer sharing.
4. Do not forget to turn on additional file and printer sharing options.
If this does not solve your problem then you can use the network troubleshooter
