Not able to Boot Linux with GeForce 6200

Hi friends,
I have installed the GeForce 6 6200 PCI card to my system. Now I am facing a problem when i am trying to boot in Linux. It is not getting booted in Linux and forces the system to restart. But when I try to boot the Windows XP it is getting booted properly. So my main issue is I am not able to Boot Linux with GeForce 6200. Please provide me solution as early as possible.

Since your Windows XP is working correctly, there are chances of Linux to be corrupted. So I would like to suggest you to reinstall the Linux again and then try to boot it. Also install some anti-virus so that is there are any malware or virus, it can delete that which can also cause this issue. Hope that reinstalling the Linux fix an issue that you are facing.

I am guessing that this problem may be caused due to the BIOS switch which is present on your motherboard. This switch doesn't make the built-in video invisible to Ubuntu. This can be reason that when you boot the Ubuntu with the bios toggled to the GeForce, ubuntu loads the built-in video first and then sees the GeForce, tries to load that and crashes. I think that if you make certain changes over there then your problem may get solved.

The following steps will definitely help you :

1. With the video set to onboard in BIOS, bring up ubuntu.
2. Then go to the /etc/modprobe.d
3. Then edit the blacklist by adding the following lines :
   
   • blacklist Intel_agp
   • blacklist agpgart
4. Save that file.

After completing these steps, you will need to change the BIOS to the Nvidia and switch the cable when you boot next time.
