How to Repartition Raid 0 Drive

    Hi,
I have a Dell pc with Raid support on it. Now the hard drive size is quite a large. To consume more space on it I want to repartition the raid drive. I need some tips on the same. Does it is possible to re-partition the raid drive. If yes then how. What can be causes of this partitioning. Does RAID will consider the data in side that also or it will be treated differently.

Partitioning RAID drives includes a methods of both first creating a logical hard drive with various sizes and the other method which determines the way by which the data is stored on them. So if you apply this two methods then this will the correct of creating or partition the raid drives. But it is suggested that you must first take your data backup before performing this step.

Partition is also a kind of reformatting a hard disk. The set of steps in this comprises of a drive which will be used as one or more logical drive. The logical drive there for looks for the operating system to boot up and use the physical drive for the storage option. You can simply use a bootable disc for that. As your hard drive are already assign under RAID in BIOS then you use the disc for re-partitioning.

Many of the new hard drive which raid support comes with pre-existing partition in them. A single drive acts as a logical drive which consume the entire space and the other physical is used as the storage media. You can make two or more than than that physical partition in the raid drive. For this you need a boot disc of Windows. This works well.

You must first understand the working of RAID drives. This will then help you to work more efficiently on creating partitions. Many of operating system comes with a hidden partition which is needed by them to work. Here a small amount of hard drive space is kept aside for internal work. For this you can use any disk utility software to view them. You can create separate partition on a RAID drive.

Re: How to Repartition Raid 0 Drive

If you create a partition on RAID 0 hard drive then RAID formats generates a super-partition. This pan multiple drives on your computer. Like if have created a 2 partition of 500 GB on the drive then it will appear as single logical drive in the RAID format. This can be taken as500 x 2 = 1 Terabytes. Raid works on the drive by combining several partitions to a single either logical or physical. Some RAID partitions allows you to create manual partioning the system.
