The AGP maintain is presented by the "agpgart" kernel section as fraction of your Linux kernel. It is not actually fraction of the ATI display driver. If uncertain, please make contact with your Linux allocation vendor for additional information in sequence on AGP maintain for your motherboard. Several Linux distributions previously contain their own AGP hold up. Illustration contain: suSE as of version 7.0 and RedHat as of version 7.0.

If the ATI kernel section detects the occurrence of this supplied AGP/GART section, it determine try to attach. Make a note of, agpgart is not necessary for 2D submission to work correctly. If you are not working any 3D submission, it is able to be put out of action if essential without affecting functionality. To confirm that the AGP section is previously loaded, run lsmod as root. With the XServer working and the correlation recognized, the usage count of the agpgart module has to be superior to zero.

There are a number of alternatives for arranging the NVIDIA kernel section utilize of AGP, you be able to select to moreover utilize NVIDIA's AGP section (NVAGP), or the AGP section that comes with the Linux kernel (AGPGART). This is embarrassed all the way through the "NvAGP" alternative in your X config file. The alternative "NvAgp" "0" put out of action the AGP hold up alternative "NvAgp" "1" utilize NVAGP, if probable, the alternative "NvAgp" "2" can utilize AGPGART, if probable and alternative "NvAGP" "3" to try AGPGART; if that fail, then try NVAGP.

You have to make use of the AGP section that runs most excellent with your AGP chip set. If you are knowledge trouble with constancy, you might desire to start by put out of action the AGP and seeing if that resolve the trouble. Then you are able to experimentation with moreover of the previous AGP section. You be able to query the present AGP status at several time via the /proc file system interface.

To utilize the Linux AGPGART driver, it determines to necessitate be compiling with your kernel, moreover statically linking in, or building as a section. NVIDIA AGP hold up cannot be utilized if AGPGART is encumbered in the kernel. It is suggested that you accumulate AGPGART as a section and create certain that it is not loaded when trying to utilize NVIDIA AGP. Please in addition make a note of that altering AGP drivers normally necessitate a reboot previous to the changes essentially take consequence. Present versions of the ATI Proprietary Linux Driver contain built-in agp hold up. Even if your Linux allocation does not present agpgart, the ATI built-in agpgart section determine to try to load, on the other hand you cannot assurance that this agp driver will run on all computers.
