How to reduce Linux memory overhead

The only important choice needs to be done is to install a Linux distribution and desktop environment (DE). Although this is a different option, but the choice of distribution may affect the choice of DE. Although nothing can stop you from installing software on your system, such as Ubuntu to install Fluxbox; but you will find that if we simply use the default release attached to DE, all will be a lot easier. Check and reply.

How to reduce Linux memory overhead

In order to measure the memory usage , we will use the tool and PS. More accurate, because it takes into account a number of applications that use shared libraries. For example, if two applications use the same shared library, each with 1MB of memory,ps Will show both applications are using the extra 1MB of memory, exmap Then be able to more accurately display each application only uses 500 KB of memory. Such precision in evaluating the like KDE and GNOME desktop environment is very important, because in these cases there will be great among applications using shared libraries. All the best.

You need to note that, in determining the process, when all the memory overhead, but also should consider mapped And effective mapped Value, which is in the process in the exchange of those parts of space. mapped values and resident values is similar, but it is for the swap space in the page, rather than the physical memory page. So you want to view does not consider shared library data can be combined resident and the mapped values; to see when you take into account the data on the shared libraries, you need to be effective resident and effective mapped values together. In the production of the table,No Record these values, it is because for our test run, the exchange space, and there is no process, and therefore, for those columns, exmaple Command output values are 0. All the best.

you also need to note that the use of shared memory have also been compared, Konqueror the implementation of better than Firefox, which uses less memory, about 14MB; However, if you look at the overall usage, Konqueror still higher than Firefox, but the gap is not large, only about 5MB. This is because the Konqueror of KDE to use a large number of shared libraries, use the KDE desktop, these libraries are loaded into a variety of applications. However, if you do not use any other KDE applications, Opera will be a better choice than KDE. Best of luck.

Re: How to reduce Linux memory overhead

OpenOffice Writer to use the memory to be more than KWord or AbiWord. KWord memory after the use of OpenOffice, it is in the right display the document in Microsoft Word format best. Although AbiWord can also be successfully open the document, but the document will be displayed in the correct some problems, so if you run in collaboration with Microsoft Office is very important, the best choice for OpenOffice. Check and reply.
