It may intervene in the registry of Windows XP to bypass the loss of restore points in Windows 7. Anyways, i have some troubleshoot that can definitely help you out.

    • First restart the system and login to XP operating system.
    • Assume that C is XP and D is Windows 7.
    • In Start, select Run and type regedit Click OK.
    • Navigate to the following key:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ MountedDevices
    • On the right-click MountedDevices, select New, then Key.
    • Name this Key as Offline
    • Now in the right pane, a right-click, select New, then DWORD
    • Name this new DWORD value as \ DosDevices \ D:
    • Now double this Key and set the value to 1
    • Click Ok and Close the registry.

It is recommended that you backup your computer before working with windows registry. Now as you are finished with registry and the Offline Key, go to the Control Panel, click on System, select the System Restore tab. Verify that only the XP drive (C) is guarded and off monitoring from Windows 7 by clicking on Settings and then disable System Restore on this drive. Restart Windows XP, so that changes are supported.

Thats was the great tip mate. After changing the settings on Windows XP, you also need to workout with Windows 7. So now log on to Windows 7 and go to Control Panel. Click on System and than System Protection. Verify that only the active system is protected, that is to say windows 7 and the other system is disabled, clicking on Configure, then checking the box Turn off System Protection for XP. Now create a restore point manually. Thats it. Restore points created no longer disappear each time you start and remain present and functional.

To create a restore point manually in Windows 7 follow these steps:-

    1. Go to Start Menu type restore, then click Create a restore point
    2. The System Protection tab opens.
    3. Check that the protection on D is well selected (in your case), and then click Create.
    4. Enter a description to easily identify the restore point, then click on Create.
    5. The restore point is created.
    6. Close the windows.
