The terminal of MAC OS X

    Hi,
I want some basic information on MAC OS X Terminal. Does this is much needed in MAC. Likewise in Windows we use cmd. We can also run any third party DOS based software to access the commands and file directories. But what about the same in MAC. What is the role of terminal in it. Does using a third party graphic based software is better or stick to the traditional one. Thanks in advance.

It is necessary to understand the opportunities, but also the risks associated with its use. In part i will recommend you to learn the basic commands, useful to start with the famous and mysterious Terminal. First some warnings, the Terminal is a very powerful tool and one mistake can destroy the entire operating system or cause data loss, which will then be sunk because the function does not cancel the Terminal

The terminal is located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on your startup disk. He is represented by this icon:. The icon for the Terminal application in Mac OS X and the shell prompt. Once the application is found, double-click it to launch. A window opens, what you see is called a shell is a shell. It can interact with the operating system.

Each command line is composed of different elements. Like for example localhost. At the beginning of the line means that the Terminal application running on the job you have before you (and not on a remote computer). This information will be repeated at the beginning of each line and can vary, it might display the IP address of the machine where you work, DNS name, etc.
