Repairing WinXP install is another option. Think Hardware causes freeze: Make sure all your hardware meet the requirements of Windows XP. Make sure your CPU is sitting with the appropriate thermal paste on the bottom of the heatsink and CPU fan is operating normally, the case is properly ventilated, the PSU meets the material needs of your machine, and the disc is hard not to die on you.

This problem is caused by the Explorer.exe process that handles Windows Explorer, the desktop and taskbar in a multithreaded process. To solve this problem it is sufficient to separate these tasks into separate processes, Windows Explorer within a single process and the desktop and the taskbar in another process.

This change requires a little manipulation in the registry:

    1. First open the registry database through the start menu and type regedit in Run
    2. Then locate the key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
    3. Then create a DWORD value named DesktopProcess
    4. Set its value to "1" to separate processes
    5. Finally restart the computer or to avoid restarting the computer follow this little tip: Do not reconnect after a change in the register
