Windows does not identify hard drive

Indeed when we buy a personal computer, it is delivered, installed and configured. The operating system is already installed and the disk drives are already configured. But like many users, there will come a time when it will start to upgrade your configuration. The first thing to change is often the hard drive. I had myself suffered my self when windows are not reading the hard drive and then I have to take the replacement. Why this happens.

It is today a storage solution very profitable. But unlike the hard disk already installed on your computer that you purchase at your local supplier will not be configured. There will even be unreadable by Windows. It will therefore have to prepare it using software. It is necessary that at first you must properly assign the hard drive format to it. Format it with windows disc or proper partitioning tool. Sometime the hardware is defective.

For reference, you should know that your hard disk is a physical unit. But it can also be seen as a logical unit. It is in this form that Windows will recognize it. To simplify we must consider that initially your hard disk is a physical unit, recognized by the bios of your motherboard but not by your system of holding. The advantage of the logical unit is only one hard drive you can actually cut into several parts to be called partition.

Yes this is right. Windows will then recognize as many drives as partitions. Like how you create four to five partitions in a drive. The best benefit for multiple partition is that you get a good storage capacity. Once the hard drive is formatted properly then it will be necessarily easy for you to organize your data. With partitions you can always put such a partition in your mp3 and games, and a second, your utilities, software.

The are several disadvantages of partitioning a hard drive. That is why you get only a single partition with a recovery drive in branded computers. By partitioning a hard drive you will lose several MB. This also reduce the disk life if you are formatting a drive after regular intervals. There are several other way to ensure the lifespan of your harddrive. You can use a recovery software instead of formatting again and again.

Formatting or generating partitions really effects a hard drive life time. This reduces disk performance. In effect you make more partitions and manage them will be complicated. But for example we have partitioned a 80GB disk into 4 partitions (Windows 98 / Windows 2000 / Games / Backup) and that did not decrease the performance of our system. Better buy products that have warranty.
