    Different options in MS Config

    Hi,
I have a Windows XP computer which is working a quiet slow on startup. The system works great before. I have a 1GB RAM support with additional 512 Graphic card. But due to some new installation the problem has appeared. I need some specific details about different options in Msconfig to make the system fast. Also how to clean Windows registry and restore in case of any error. Thanks in advance.

Msconfig is a Windows utility that can extract files, to enable or disable services and startup items. Msconfig can also troubleshoot your system and increase its performance. To access Msconfig, click Start, Run and type msconfig. Then click OK. Here in the first tab you will get different types of startup options and in the service tab you can untick services which you don't want on startup to run.

The different startup modes in msconfig are, Normal startup - This start mode loads all the drivers and Windows services and applications are running at startup. Diagnostic Startup - The startup mode only loads the minimum drivers and services. It is safe mode with support network. Selective Startup - The startup mode launches applications, drivers and services of your choice. This is the startup mode to advise, in part because it allows a performance gain, and secondly because you know that your PC starts.

The following boxes in the first startup act on other tabs in msconfig. You can uncheck, except that marked load system services. You can select the moment the option to use the original boot.ini file. The button labeled extract the file opens this window. This option allows msconfig replace any files with a healthy version. To-do, list in the zone file name of the file you want to restore. Then in the area to restore from, specify the location of the directory or archive..

You can tab through this intervention in the system.ini file (editable via Notepad by typing sysedit or opening the system.ini file located in the Windows directory. This file is not very useful ( This is to ensure compatibility with very old 16 bit applications). You can uncheck all the boxes. Then click the win.ini tab. Same thing, this tab is not really useful, you can uncheck all boxes. Then Checkboxes affect the boot.ini file and rajoutent parameters named after the / fastdetect. Uncheck the boxes for programs you do not want to start (you can uncheck the performance of your computer will be higher), however, careful not to uncheck your firewall if you have one.

The registry is vital to the smooth functioning of the system and a backup that may help you avoid many troubles. First click Start, then Run and type regedit. Once in the Registry Editor, click File, Export, then select "All". Provide a name for your database and click ok. When you click on the file you saved, the database will be restored in the state where it was registered.
