Re: Install KDE on Mac OS X

Installing KDE on Mac OS X is possible considering you are good at commands in Mac. Well there are three methods of Installing KDE on Mac :
    1. Installing KDE4 as Qt/X11 via Fink
    2. Installing KDE4 as Qt/Mac via Fink
    3. Installing through MacPorts

If you know how to use Fink and/or MacPorts you can install KDE easily. I hope this could help...

Re: Install KDE on Mac OS X

To install KDE on Mac install Fink on Mac first. Download it from here. Its an disk image so it would be easy for you to install Fink. Once Fink is installed You need to update it so that it has all the packages that it might require to install KDE or any other application. Now to update fink, open terminal and type :
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
Now after all the update package information is downloaded, type :
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install fink
Now once the fink installation is updated, you can install KDE similarly...

I didn't knew KDE needed Fink or MacPorts so get itself installed. Anyways, thanks for the information. Now the above post was the procedure for installing and updating fink. How am i suppose to install KDE? I don't have any idea how will i get going with this. So could anyone help me with it? Thanks again. Also what do you guys prefer? Installing Fink or MacPorts? I think i had installed MacPort once to get Mac version of Wine that is DarWine to install on my Mac. Is this the same MacPort?

Re: Install KDE on Mac OS X

MacPorts is the same software which you might have used to install Darwine. MacPort is an interpreter for Mac so that it can run Linux Based Softwares natively on Mac. I have not installed KDE personally on my Mac, so i don't know which method is preferred, but you can choose the one you want. You can download MacPorts from here :
    MacPorts for SnowLeopard : Download
    MacPorts for Leopard : Download
    MacPorts for Tiger : Download

Re: Install KDE on Mac OS X

Available Packages from the KDE archives for Mac OS X are : kdebase4, kdemultimedia4, kdegraphics4, kdeedu4, kdesdk4, kdegames4, kdenetwork4, kdeutils4, and kdetoys4. To install these software you just need to use terminal. Open terminal and type the following command :

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install [package-name]
    Example :

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install kdebase4
Likewise install all the packages you need... All the best!
