Windows 7 BSOD after upgrade from Vista

I upgraded my computer from Vista to windows 7. It worked fine for sometime but after about an hour it stopped working. When i try to log into any users account, apporximately after about 15 to 20 seconds it shutdowns. I get a BSOD which said that it shut down to prevent damage tom my computer. What shall i do so that i dont loose my data? Please help. For additional info : I have Norton Antivirus Installed, Office 2007 and some softwares like winrar and notepad++ installed. Can this cause Windows 7 BSOD after upgrade from Vista?

This can be a hardware issue too. Did you check that your memory is not bad and is working properly? Try this link : BSOD will upgrading Vista to Windows 7. Also try to start the computer after removing a newly installed hardware. Even that can cause a problem. Hope this is useful.

If you can start your computer in safe-mode try to clean boot your Windows 7. Follow these steps :
    • Boot your computer in safe-mode with Administrator account
    • Click on start and in search box type : msconfig.exe
    • Click Continue and type your admin password if it asks for it
    • Click on "Selective Startup" and then click on "Load startup items"
    • Click on the Services tab and then click "Hide all Microsoft services" check box
    • Then click Disable all
    • Now click apply ok as needed and when you are asked to reboot your computer click yes and reboot in normal mode

This should help you from getting the BSOD if it is occurred sue to an incompatible software loading at startup.

    Also try this :
    • Start your computer in safe-mode
    • Uninstall Norton Antivirus
    • Reboot your computer in normal mode
    • Install Norton Antivirus again and update it without rebooting your computer
    • When the antivirus is completely updated, reboot the computer again

    Does it work now?
