Help with Hibernate Option in Windows 7 RTM

I want to know the way to hibernate my desktop in Windows 7? I have just installed Windows 7 RTM very recently. Earlier I used Windows 7 RC, which I was alot impressed with. Can any one guide me as to how to get the Hiberante option in Windows 7 RTM ? I am using Windows 7 RTM on Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB RAM. Also explain me what is the difference between Hibernate and Sleep mode?

Hibernation is designed basically for laptop computers. To enable Hibernation in Windows 7 is not as easy as it was in Windows XP. The power saving state is termed as Hibernation in Windows. Sleep and Hibernation are two different concepts. In Hibernation all your open programs and documents are being sent to you Hard disk, where as with Sleep mode a small amount of power is withdrawn after putting your settings and work in memory.

These following steps helped me to enable the option to Hibernate my laptop computer that uses 64-Bit Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium operating system:
    Go to Start Menu.
In the Search Box type: CMD and Enter.
On the command prompt screen type: powercfg /hibernate on and Enter.
Now close the command prompt by typing: exit
This enabled me to hibernate my Sony Vaio laptop.

Re: Help with Hibernate Option in Windows 7 RTM

I am using Windows 7 RTM on my HP Compaq computer. According to me you also would need to add the few more steps to hibernate your computer. When I followed the above steps the hibernate option was not visible in the Start Menu. So after a little research I found that you would need to add the following steps in case the Hibernate option is not visible:
    1. Open the Start Menu.
    2. Enter Power Options in Search box to Select the Power Options.
    3. Now select the Change when the computer sleeps link and open it.
    4. Select Change advanced power settings link and open it.
    5. Expand the Sleep Tree in the Advanced Sleep options.
    6. Allow Hybrid Sleep option needs to be turned off
    7. To apply the settings click Apply and then OK button.
