Windows XP Repair Installation Hangs at 34 mins

    Hi,

I tried to run a Windows XP Repair installation. The repair install would freeze in the mark of 34 minutes during the "installing devices" section. I looked at the log files and found that the video card was not installed yet. Since then the system will not boot, comes to 'Welcome' screen and hangs. They have tried repeatedly but with the same result. What should I do ???

Ive seen some cases where the installation of Windows crashes if installed more than 256 MB of memory - but thats a bit exaggerated. What you could try is to move all files in C:\Windows\INF temp folder like C:\tempinf, then run the installation again. No need to format the disk, just delete C: \ Windows and C: \ Program Files and then begin installing the new Windows XP.

Check your hard drive for mechanical problems with diagnostic tools can be downloaded from the hard disk manufacturer. Check the RAM sticks one at a time using MemTest. Run MemTest that last for at least 4-5 cycles. Disconnect your network cable. Press F9 (restore defaults ) Then try running Windows XP Repair Installation again

The reason for Windows XP Repair Installation failure, that some system files may be missing, try recover console. If you already installed the Recovery Console :

    1. During startup, select the Recovery Console from the Start menu options.
    2. If you have a dual boot or multi boot system, select the installation you need to access from the Recovery Console.
    3. When prompted, enter the administrator password.
    4. In the system prompt, type the command in the Recovery Console, type help for a list of commands, or help commandname for help on a specific command.
    5. To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit.

You need to ensure that the CD-ROM is set to start hard disk (in BIOS). If going backwards in the settings, then boot from the hard drive first. It is possible that a driver of the windows xp is causing a problem, format is recommended. You only have to boot from CD before HDD.

Try to boot from another Windows CD. If you can boot the Windows CD another, delete the partition and recreate it. Then take the turn in another CD and restart the installation. If not boot to the second CD, you have to do as others have said and set the boot order to CD before Hard disk.

A Repair install of Windows removes any Windows Service Packs and updates that were previously installed. The repair install also replaces Windows Update client files on your server with older versions of these files. As a result, Automatic Updates believes your computer is still up-to-date and will not download or install any Windows Service Packs or updates that the computer needs after the Repair install. Since Automatic Updates believes the computer is up-to-date on Windows Service Packs and updates, no warnings or error messages are generated.
