    Doubling desktop icons?

I am using HP desktop and Windows XP installed in it. Whenever I installs something, it shows two icons for that program on a desktop. This problem is started when I installed the second user on my PC. In his account also icons are doubles. How to solve this problem? Is this problem related to virus?

You may have different user profile with different desktop for particular user. You add or remove desktop icons using user profiles. Go to c:\documents and settings\your profile\desktop and in that folder search for double icons and delete on of them. I think it will help you.

To overcome this problem you have to edit registry. To edit registry, you have to follow the steps-
    1 Start > Run > Regedit
    2 GO to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
3 Modify/Create the Value Name [CommonDesktop] according to the Value Data listed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: CommonDesktop
    Value Data: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
3 Exit from registry and reboot your system.

It is simple and easiest way to remove default icons. Click on start button, and then open control Panel. Double-click on display, click the desktop tab, and then click customize Desktop. Click to select the check boxes for the desktop items that you want to display, or click to clear the check boxes for the desktop items that you want to remove.
