Mac OS X Error code -1660

Hi,

Every time I try to open a Adobe Reader it tells me that an unexpected error has occurred, error 10660 whilst running on OS X 10.3. When we double-click on a document I get the error, however, we drag and drop the document onto the application icon, the app launches and the document is opened without incident. I've deleted and re-installed acrobat, but the same problem presents. Does anyone has idea ???

An error 10660 is not an operating system error. Can you tell us a little more about which version of Adobe Reader are you are working with and the complete text of the error message? Run the "Console" utility (under /Applications/Utilities) and see if there are any relevant error messages.

Error code -10660 is an Launch Services error that generally indicates that the preferred application for the document is in the Trash. Had you trashed some prior version of Acrobat Reader before installing newer version and previous PDF files might be compatible, you are about to open in the trashed version of Reader.

To remove error 1660, select any PDF file and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the section labeled "Open With" select your desired default application from the drop down menu, then click on the Change All button. This step defaults all associations created between file types and specific applications. For example, if you set to open PDF files in Adobe Acrobat instead of Preview, which now opens in the preview again until the association Acrobat PDF files is restored.
