PC wants to format my USB stick

Hello to all , I use long USB keys without problem on my vista pc but since yesterday my pc doesn't open my usb key, it asks me to format?? I haven't made any changes to system from last few days then why this sudden issue? Have you any idea what happened and how to fix ?? please help me, thanking you..

is it happening with single usb stick? check if it happens with some another falsh drive, usually it happens if you disconnected your key without using the usb drive icon

-> Safely remove usb disk drive.

You can try the following:

• Open a command prompt window (or start, run CMD)
• You type the command chkdsk e:/ f (by replacing e: with the drive letter of your key)

Remove and reinstall all USB controllers

To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

• Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.
• Click System, then click the Hardware tab.
• Click the Device Manager button.
• Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
• Click the right mouse button on every device node Serial Bus Controllers, then click Uninstall to remove them one by one.
• Restart the computer and then reinstall the USB controllers.
• Connect the USB storage removable, then test to verify that the problem is solved.

yeah it happens to me also, the method which works for me is by pressing down the external portion of the usb key. You will need to hold it down the entire time you are you will get message saying system is trying to access the data, which could take several minutes. This worked for me. Good luck.
