How old is your computer? What is the size of your hard drive? What version of OS X do is running on your Mac at the moment?
Check the Minimum requirement as below, before installing leopard:
* Processor must be any Intel, PowerPC G5 or G4 (867 MHz and faster)
* DVD drive (for installation of the operating system)
* At least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM (1 GB) is recommended for development purposes)
* At least 9 GB of disk space available.
You are entitled to use the software that came with your computer. Each machine comes with its own software. To update the software that came with the computer, you have to pay for the new software. So in this sense, yes, too much to ask. "Piracy is a term accepted by the misuse of software in violation of the EULA, you must accept when installing the software. If you violate the terms of this agreement, you are acting illegally.
The only way to install Leopard on a PowerBook is with an off-the-shelf copy of Leopard. Installation disks are designed for the specific model comes with, in this case a MBPro. Intel needs a different version of Leopard for PPC-based CPU, HD and file structure. If you've been going through the error message it would have done the hard drive unrecognizable on your powerbook g4 system.
