install windows 2000 without cdrom

Hello everyone,

My laptop is older one.I am trying to install windows 2000 on it. It doesn't have a working CD-Rom drive or A network card.Just floppy drive and a Phone modem Plug it.It has a USB plug and I got a USB drive but it doesn't seam to see the USB drive when I boot it up. Any idea on how I could install windows 2000 on this

any thoughts??

I discovered it is not easy to imagine that a machine that is capable of running those OS's would be old enough to not have a BIOS that let you to configure the CDROM drive in the boot priority. My advice would be to sniff around the motherboard vedor site, see if there is a BIOS upgrade and, if so, flash your BIOS.

You have to take the laptop drive out, put it in a drive cage hooked to a pc. Copy the w2k cd contents to the drive. Put the drive back in the laptop. Boot up and run winnt from the i386 folder to start install.Your big concern is you need the laptop 2000 drivers which will need to be on the drive also.

You can do by this way Get the custom Windows 98SE bootdisk.Create and boot the floppy. Create and format a partition for w2k setup.Make sure It should be 600MB+ is you skip point 7,it should be 1.2GB+ if not.Now all things you have with your floppy. Restart from the floppy.Run smartdrv from the floppy,Optionally you can use the xcopy command to transfer the i386 folder to the HD. /E switch is for transferring subdirectories. Run winnt.exe from the HD if you did the copy thing
