Error : Your kernel was built with "gcc" version "4.2.3"

I have this old computer box which i don't use anymore. I had something wrong with the it so it won't work. I just got a new DDR1 RAM for it and started the computer after around six months and it started pretty well. Now when i updated the system and started vmware workstation it gave me this error : your kernel was built with "gcc" version "4.2.3". What could be done? Any help?

If you do not know what is causing this problem, you can continue but saying [yes] at the last prompt which says something like this : "/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.2.4" anyway? [no]. This will start vmware workstation

Re-Install Ubuntu and update the system as before, but just don't apply the patches that you downloaded recently after which you started gettings this error. gcc version may be updated by the package manager during update proces and the vmware was not compiled with the new version and may have stability issues. The error you are getting is just warning messages but still you can run vmware.

The best solution for this would be to use a newer version of vmware. Get a new version of vmware and this problem will end up. I had the same problem when i was on ubuntu 8.04 lts. Hope this information helps you...
