Acer linpus linux emachine boot problem

Hi guys, i brought a acer notebook from a friend. He had this notebook since a long time and did not use it even once. When i start Acer linpus linux emachine boot problem occurs. Some dos based loading is done and then it stucks to a screen which says [root@localhost/]# What does this mean? I cannot boot into the Graphical User Interface. When asked, my friend said this linpus linux was bundled with acer. What might be the problem? I am not familiar with linux. Please help...

The screen which you see it a command line interface. This means the Linpus linux is installed properly and it loaded in command prompt. The acer notebooks that came with linpus linux had very minimal features and were only bundled with CLI - Command Line Interface. If you wan't to install a GUI based linux try Ubuntu or Fedora.

If you wan't to install a GUI based linux try Ubuntu or Fedora.

Thanks a lot for this help. I just checked out Ubuntu and feel its very user friendly. I have already started the download and will install it as soon as its done. I will get back if i have any problems. Thanks!
