    Samba as Domain controller for Windows XP Clients

    I need to configure Samba as Domain controller for Windows XP Clients. I need what parameters to configure and from where do i configure it. Do i have to configure the parameters in smb.conf file? Can anyone help me? I am totally new to this... Thanks!

    The first step i would recommend you would be have a look at http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch03.html This is the official samba website. You could get a lot of help from it.. If still there are any doubts, do post back... Also the latest samba packages can be downloaded from there...

    Which Windows XP clients do you want to join the domain? It is ok with Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home cannot joing a domain, microsoft has chipped off the feature from XP Home editions. Do you have a user name for the XP clients in the linux box? You need one so that users can be validated on the linux domain controller.

    Add users to samba and then may be user from XP clients will be able to join the domain. To add users see the following example :
    Code:
    useradd user1$ -s /bin/false -d /dev/null
    smbpasswd -am user1
    Or manually add users names to "/etc/passwd" file.
