How to open a dotx file

Hi friends,

I am having some problem with my computer, recently i have receive dotx file from one of my clients and i am not able to opne it through Office 2003 and i have install Windows XP as my Operating system this files are very important for me and i need to open that file and need to reply them as soon as possible. Can anyone tell me how to open a dotx file.

you won't be able to open this file in Office 2003 because it's has being created in Office 2007 and they have forget to use compatibility mode in that case you need to install Office 2007 because if the file is being created in higher version then youn't be able to use it in lower version if any files is being made in lower version you can use it in higher version as everyone knows about it. So in this case you install Office 2007 and you would be able to open it.

Normally dotx file is word template file normally you can open this file by double clicking on it and if you have already made it to compatibility mode then it will open in compatibility mode. If you are have older version then you need to open template as follows.

• Click on Tools- - >Options menu item.
• Select the File Locations tab.
• Select User Templates.
• To find the entire path, click the Modify button, but don't actually make any changes.

If you want to open dotx file then you can follow the below steps in Office 2007

• Click the round Office button in the upper-left corner of the window.
• Click the Word Options button.
• Click Advanced.
• Way down at the bottom of the right pane, under General, click the File Locations button.
• Continue as in Step 3, above.
