OK, my system font has changed into a something like wingdings (unrecognizable characters). When I startup, my password cannot be entered correctly since the characters are not the same. I tried the ctrl-alt-del twice routine with no luck. The password will not enter correctly there either.
How can I open up windows to change the font? Can I do anything else?

I cannot load the operating system to change anything.

Which OS you are using? If XP then refer to following threads see if they helps you accessing your XP without password.

When you get back into your machine, you will need to reinstall all the ARIAL fonts. If you check your fonts file you will probably only see arial narrow. Don't ask me where they disappeared to, but they were gone.
You can download the fonts from the Microsoft site.
