Due to RAM shortage (only 2 GB) I wanted to remove Windows XP's pagefile. But I don't know how to do that. I have asked this many of my friends and relative but none of them could help me. Do you know how to empty the pagefile in Windows XP?

You can remove all pagefiles by going to System Properties (right click on My Computer and select Properties) and selecting Advanced tab. Under Performance frame, click on Settings button. Now go to Advanced tab, under "Virtual Memory" frame click on Change. Now change the states to "No paging file" for all drives.
To empty the pagefile in Windows XP, here is the registry fix:
1. Click Start menu and choose Run, then type regedit and click on OK.
2. Look for: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management.
3. Double-click on the ClearPageFileAtShutdown key and change its value to 1.
4. Close the registry editor and restart your computer.
You can also use the below mentioned security policy that clears the pagefile on shutdown. It is similar to the registry hack given above but probably a better solution and easy to use through group policy.
"Shutdown: Clear virtual memory pagefile" = Enabled
