Username and password in ftp address line

I want to connect to a website through ftp. But it is asking me for username and password. I can provide it but the one question that comes to my mind is that is it safe to login with a username and password in the address line? Some thing like:

    ftp://domain\username password@download.mywebserver.com/getthefile/

Type FTP -? from the command prompt. You will get the command line options to supply a script file and parameters to log in automatically. Then "quit" to exit.

This is a critical bug due to security hazards that can be expected in the near future. It needs to be get resolved very soon. The user can unknowningly expose his password to the world. I hope it will be corrected in its next version.
