Windows XP boots slow when external hard drive (USB) is connected

My problem is that my PC boots slow when a external drive (USB) is connected. Without the external hard disk start XP takes no time.
I had an IDE drive with XP and the WD My Book Office 1TB and USB legacy support disabled in the BIOS.

My IDE drive was broken. I have replaced a SATA disk, reconnected with the motherboard.

I have XP and Office 2003 to put the disc, as before, including all service packs.

The BIOS settings are the same as the old working configuration.

Is it possible that the system tries to boot the external drive as external drive and now both are SATA? Since I use the IDE drive had no problems, or is there a Windows setting that I need to adjust.
I have indexing on the external drive off and the priority to "performance" made ..... but this has not led to a shorter boot time.

I know it is not more .....

Look in the BIOS boot sequence because there is probability that the new sata drive is not as first boot, after removing the IDE drive.

Also you can also use the option to boot from USB all off in your boot list.

Do you have a USB 1.0 connection? I had a similar problem, but it was resolved with a USB 2.0 PCI card.

Re: Windows XP boots slow when external drive (USB) is connected

I have just checked in bios, booting from USB, I can not disable this option since the BIOS does not have. My HP PC has a Asus P4SD-LA motherboard, unfortunately specific to HP and Asus no support.

I have upgraded the latest HP drivers.

Anyway, BIOS does not seem to be the problem, the delay lies in the 'Windows is starting'.... and I have USB 2.0.

I have just searched on the internet and there seems a problem with WD external drives. Now the question which brand make good copies PCI USB 2.0 cards?

    Thanks for the reply!
