Problems with the computer search and an IP Scan

My notebook (Windows XP SP3) with the computer (Windows XP SP2) and the notebook of my brother connect. Both are in the Workgroup. Now I have "computer" under the Network Neighborhood properties already searched the computers, but both can not be found. After scanning the IP range 192.168.1.x using IP scanner, was also the only Windows XP SP2 - computer found, despite that ICMP requests. Can someone help me ?

    Thanks

computer search is not the best way for his network to be verified. A ping from the extensive reach of the computer to test. You need no extra software. The computer is not the answer to ICMP says nothing about the network functionality.

Since this scan several PING commands to be sent several computers (in order to reach this into account), must of course on the PCs scanned incoming requests are not blocked.

Uninstall and then reinstall the modem and the drivers by using Device Manager
    1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
    2. Click the Hardware tab, click Device Manager, and then locate Network Adapters.
    3. Expand Network Adapters, and then right-click the icon for your network adapter.
    4. Click Uninstall, and then click OK. In the dialog box that prompts you to remove the files that are associated with this device, click Yes.
    5. Restart the computer. Or, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
    6. If Windows finds the device but does not recognize it, you must install the latest driver for your network adapter.
