    xp driver

Friends computer running xp wont bring up windows at start up . Wont go in safe mode. I put my Norton virus checker in, this came up....Windows/system/driver/fltmgr.sys windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.. I don't have a windows installation disc (preloaded).. Any easy way of fixing this? I am new to repairing computer faults so be gentle...

    To fix the problem:

    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
    2. Choose your language settings and click next.
    3. Click "repair your computer"

It will give the following options:

    4. Safe Mode
    5. Safe Mode with networking
    6. Safe Mode with Command Prompt
    7. Last known good configuration
    8. Start Windows normally

    10. choose option 6, will get a list of loaded files.

    11. boot it with the XP DVD inserted.
It prompts to choose an OS to start and displays "Microsoft Windows Xp" as the choice.

    12. Change the boot sequence to boot up from the Dvd drive. It starts up the Windows installation upon reboot.

Upon getting the Xp menu, choose to Repair my computer.

    13. Click on "Repair and restart".

    14. Step 1 shows up again. choose 8. Start Windows normally.
    15. The screen shows the Vista icon and Windows Vista starts up ok.
    16. I turned off windows Updates and rebooted the computer and it starts up ok.

    A system repair may work

1: Is it a Desktop ir Laptop?
2: What is the system specs: so I know what you are working on.
    3: How did this happen?

If repair does not work, then take out the hard drive and set that hard drive to slave on another system, and take out the data that your friend needs. Find a network driver for his computer and then format his desktop or laptop.
