Desktop icons position does not remember in windows 7

was hoping someone knew of some setting in the registry that would enable aligning to the grid - but not force position - oh well maybe someone will eventually find some way around it - thanks for trying

He is not talking about the desktop. He is talking about folders.

He is correct with his complaint and there is no Auto Arrange in folders.

There isnt???

Im on Win98se and it has AUTO ARRANGE in every folder!!

Well, that's great Dude - but we are talking about Windows 7 - all versions prior to W7 let you position objects within a folder - but not W7.
