No space allocated in windows xp

    Hello,
Here I would like to create a partition on my hard drive (Windows XP), but when I'm in "Computer Management" in my "Disk 0" I only see my main partition and no "space", outside it seems to me, to partition my hard drive I need a space? So how do I do it? Thank you

First, in disk managment step 1.. create Extended partition = full amount of drive space, then you create logical partions and format them.

I assume that you have an existing installation of WinXP that you wish to preserve. If so then you need to use a partition resizing tool. My preference is PartitionExpert from Acronis. Use Google to find some free ones - if you're prepared to trust them!

The easiest work-around is to add a second VDI to your XP VM. Don't forget to use My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management to format the drive and allocate partition letter(s). There is a Microsoft SysInternals tool to allow you to Symlink directories to the new partition. Also remember to clean up your old drive (%temp%, internet cache, old c:\windows\$NtUninstallKB* directories). Use My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Settings to move your pagefile to the new drive. Also make sure that you have XP hibernation disabled (you don't need this since you can savestate your VM instead). Then defrag the C drive and try again.
