Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 for developers

Apple has just published, to developers, a new beta version of its iPhone OS 3.0. This major update occurs just two weeks after the launch of the tests. This beta 2, or more exactly build 7A259, is much more stable and faster than the first. The biggest novelty remains the activation of the push service, allowing developers to test the functionality in their applications. New information about In-App (buy separate components for applications already in place) were also provided. Some components have received special attention, including GameKit, Bluetooth, MAPK, fonts or text boxes. For against, Apple said that some features like MMS will not be accessible at all during the testing phase.

The all new iPhone 3.0 beta 2 also features better stability and performance enhancements which we will tell you about in due course, the full name of this software is called “iPhone OS beta 2 build 7A259” Apple has said that they will open its live testing services that support these new services during the ongoing iPhone 3.0 beta test program, but this does not come without warning, this will be limited to a chosen number of developers at first, more and more devs will get it in the end.

It’s good news for people like me who are using the beta on their primary phones — against their own good judgment and the advice of Apple and everyone else. The official build number is 7a259g, and this release marks only two weeks since the announcement and initial release of the iPhone 3.0 software.

Despite Apple's warning against MMS and tethering, they can be enabled by modifying the ipcc file (the carrier settings). They both work in b2 in the U.S. although some countries have trouble getting them to work at the same time, but they work, regardless of the firmware.
