    FAILED Vista System Restore 0x80070002

I know this is some sort of problem with Vista SP1..? And it's sort of a common issue..?

    Short and sweet:
Windows wont load. It flashes a blue screen and an error message too fast to be read.

It gives me the following options:
    Launch Restore Tools
    Launch Windows Normally.

    Windows Normally will not work.
When the restore tools come up it scans for errors ((of course cannot find any)) and allows me to chose a few restore options.

I attempted system restore and got this message:
System restore failed.. Cannot find file. (0x80070002)

How am I supposed to fix this issue if I can't access windows? Help would be greatly appreciated!

That error code means that a file that initializes the component being accessed is corrupt or missing.

Try running the System File Checker which will replace the missing or corrupt system files.

Go to Start and type cmd.exe. In the results, right click the cmd.exe file and select the Run As Administrator option. In the command dialog, type the following.

    sfc /scannow

    Press ENTER.

I am having the exact same problem as that in the OP. It has nothing to do with windows updates, and I cannot get onto Windows in order to go through the processes suggested in the other threads. All I can access is System Recovery Options (Startup Repair, System Restore, Windows Complete PC Restore, Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, Command Prompt, Dell Factory Image Restore)

System restore gives the message in the OP and startup repair cannot solve the problem. Any thing else to try?

I had faced this issue before also. If you are lucky enough then you can simply press F8 and choose Last Known Good Configuration to boot your system. Or else you need to re-install Windows. You must first try to backup your data. You can try a Live cd for the same to copy paste content and then run a fresh installation.
