Hi,, It is possible to do so, but this is an advanced task that if done incorrectly can render your operating system useless and cause a severe data loss. Recycle Bin removal requires that you modify a registry setting.
Here’s how you can remove the Recycle Bin from your Windows XP desktop:-
If using XP Pro
Go to START > RUN
Type GPEDIT.MSC
Navagate to USER CONFIGURATION >ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES >Click on DESKTOP,
On the right hand pane find " Remove Recycle Bin icon on the desktop " , double left click on it to ENABLE it.
Thats it, go and try but remember you do it correctly.
To save your important files i would like to suggest you that you can hide them instead keeping them in recycle bin. It might get deleted any time by either by your mistake or any one else's.
But i'll make you know how can you remove your recycle icon:-
1. First of all, make a backup of the registry file. Use the instructions provided in section 2 here.
2. Open the registry editor by navigating to Start >> Run, typing regedit.exe and hitting enter
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\Destkop\NameSpace\
4. Delete this key: {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
5. Restart, the Recycle Bin has now gone from your desktop.
Now you are done. But remember what i said you in my first line.![]()
Re: Remove recycle bin icon
You can remove the Recycle Bin from Windows XP Desktop in just a simple way by a simple download.
1. Get the delrecyclebin.zip and extract the files to your computer
2. Double click the delrecycle.reg file and click Yes when prompted to add the information from the file to your registry
And to re-enable the Recycle Bin Icon, simply double click the enablerecycle.reg file also included in the zip. Select Yes when prompted to add the new information to the registry.
Or try removing manually by following this simple steps:-
Before making changes to your registry you should always make sure you have a valid backup. In cases where you're supposed to delete or modify keys or values from the registry it is possible to first export that key or value(s) to a .REG file before performing the changes.
1. Open Registry Editor.
2. In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace
3. Find the following key:
{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} Delete the this key.
4. Close Registry Editor.
And you are done, there is no need to reboot. Just wait a few seconds and see how the icon disappears from the desktop.
In order to restore the Recycle Bin icon to the desktop just re-create the missing key (or import it back to the registry in case you've exported it earlier).
In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace
