Vista allows you to create a password reset disk which enables you to reset your password without much hassle. The problem with this option is that you have to create the reset disk before the password is lost. If you have many Windows machines where users logon locally, this might be a daunting task. You can find a description of how to create a password reset disk.
One of the options is that you can format your hard-drive.But by doing this all the data on the hard drive will get.
Since you are not able to access the data without login, then its better to format the disk and then re-gather the data from different sources once again.
Since someone has already pointed out this is no different than having a computer whose drive cannot be accessed at all without login, better to format harddrive
if however the data is very important then the best thing to do is
to take your computer to a technician. He can remove your laptop drive, attach it to a spare computer; transfer all the contents to the spare comp, put your drive back into your laptop, and then you can either restore factory settings or format your hard drive and re install Windows Vista and then transfer the important files back from the spare comp back onto your newly formatted/factory settings restored hard drive!
