Download Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope Alpha 5

The development of the next major version of Ubuntu continues. 9.04 stamped and named Jackalope jaunty, it must allow the famous Linux distribution to continue to please the general public by providing new devices that simplify its use or make it more enjoyable.

Although we were talking about the entire sequence of the alpha versions, it is sometimes useful to take stock. Alpha 5 helps to define what will redirect Ubuntu 9.04, and here are the main new features:

    • The Linux kernel 2.6.28-8.26 (based on 2.6.28.7)
    • Support File System Ext4
    • The version 1.6 of Xorg graphics server
    • The font size is now chosen according to the resolution of the screen, instead of being set by default to 96 dpi (dots per inch)
    • A new menu to manage all the icons and set notification and their behavior. There is always a possibility for qu'Ubuntu 9.04 or elsewhere with a new reporting system, but it is still under study
    • Updated versions of all packages usually present in the distribution
    • As this is an alpha version, it can be very unstable. Unless you have a partition or even a computer assigned to tests, we do not recommend its use as the main system. The board classic VM is still valid.

All these great new features. And if they choose a theme drinking this time! It's really annoying to have to redownload DUST every time you install ubuntu in my Pc. I look forward so that it should support my new macbook pro 15 "without problem (which is not the case of 8.10).

Someone knows how the encryption system of the partition / home? In fact the installation in ubuntu (not kubuntu for now) we can choose to decrypt the partition / home at the same time as the login (in gdm). But if we want to do it without going through gdm (for example, I put a LiveCD, I want to decipher the partition of a hard drive), how? And that figure, it is defined only by the password? If I change the password of my account, Should it Cause any Problem

Warning: Arch is a distribution Lego: you do everything by hand to install and better not be either pressed or nervous to assemble the bricks. By against, absolute customization possible, and Init 5 to start kdm in your case, it bursts through the mass of coconut tobriannaises. After that, it's not as extreme as LFS or you do your assembly plan yourself, or Gentoo where you are forced to make bricks in mano. But that smack and you can have exactly what you want in your distro with a personal investment that I believe to be reasonable: two days turning home, knowing Debian, you have to not even two hours of work .
