Non-system disk error

Hey Friends

Recently i started getting this "Non-system disk error" problem. After rebooting my pc this error started to occur. But when i try to open my BIOS and select the C drive, my pc works fine. Can any one tell me why this kind of error occurs? Any help on this issue would be apppreciated.

This error message is caused by the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) of your computer when the MBR or Master Boot Record of the primary partition of your hard drive is corrupted or missing. The same problem can also occur if the boot drive has been configured improperly in the BIOS. In these situations, the data stored on the partition may remain undamaged but you can’t access them.

To fix this issue, you need to repair the MBR. It can be done by reinstalling the operating system and building a fresh MBR.

To resolve the problem, follow these steps:

1. Insert the Rescue boot disk into drive A.

2. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.

3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. The Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box appears.

4. Click the Startup Disk tab, and then click Create Disk. Click Yes when prompted to proceed.

5. After creating the disk, start Windows Explorer.

6. Click Tools, and click Folder Options. The Folder Options dialog box appears.

7. Click the View tab.

8. Check "Do not show hidden files and folders" if it is not already checked, and then click OK.

9. Click Floppy drive A in the left pane. All the files on the floppy disk appear in the right pane.

10. Delete all the files from the right pane.

11. Start Rescue, and click Options.

12. Click the Format Settings tab, check No Format, and then click OK.

13. Click Create. The Rescue Disk set will be created using the newly formatted disk.

Non-System Disk or Disk Error results when the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) cannot find the boot sector or the master boot record is missing or damaged; i.e. the device does not have bootable media. The BIOS searches drives in the order usually specified in the CMOS Setup. This order is often, but not always, A: (floppy drive), C: (first partition on the hard disk). The error will occur during startup if the CMOS is set so the BIOS seeks the floppy drive first and a non-bootable (or blank) floppy is in (was left in) the floppy drive.

Other causes include:

1) No bootable partition on a hard disk drive.

2) A defective hard disk drive.

3) The CMOS drive settings (parameters) are not correct for the boot device.

4) Defective floppy.

5) Defective floppy drive.

6) Virus on your system.
