upgrade windows xp home edition sp1 to sp2

can you please help me upgrade my windows xp home edition service pack 1 into service pack 2????
i already downloaded the windows xp home edition sp2,i'm just not sure if it is safe to install it...will i lost any documents / programs currently available on my laptop?

please provide me some guidelines to upgrade.

Best way is to let it update itself by Turning ON Automatic Updates or you can slipstream windows xp sp2 and Create Bootable CD.

1.Install XP and drivers
2.Install SP2
Connect to the internet.
3.Do automatic updates
