    Using Dell XP CD on HP computer

    I want to reinstall XP on a HP PC with which I do not have re-installation CD although I have a licensed XP on the PC.

    I have a Dell PC with which I had a re-installation CD of XP.

    Can I install XP on my HP PC with the re-installation CD of Windows XP provided by DELL ?

    But why is it illegal? I would be using my HP license and not the DELL ... So practically it should be allowed. Isn't it?

    I do not think ... Simply because of drivers that are usually placed on the install

    No I had to reinstall the dell with the installation CD and it worked, I just had to install the motherboard drivers, video and sound.

    But having said that, when I reinstalled the dell, it has not asked for my number, I wonder if my HP, using the CD provided by Dell it's going to ask ...

    Perhaps Microsoft will check at the time of an update?

    It's disgusting, the law should require sellers of PCs brand must provide a CD of re-installation.

    Here I find myself asking HP to an installation CD so I paid for the license.

    They do not have installation CD which allows them to sell when the hard drive suffers.

    Normally, during the first start of your computer, it offers you to create the re-installation CD.

    Anyway, you should be able to install any effect of the two, changing the license number and then to validate without too many worries

    If you boot from the CD, it should tell you that it is for HP and refuse to settle
    if by some miracle, you managed to install it in another way, you would face a very fast activation and WGA.

    some brands give the CD with the computer, it should be taken care at the time of purchase. Now, whatever you want to do is simply illegal.

    CDS manufactured by Dell are OEM versions which doesnot require a Product Key ( to confirm this please right click on my computer go to properties you will find Dell logo), it is illegal to use this disk on another machine.

    You can do the folowing:

    Go to control panel
    ==> Regional & Language Options
    ==> Now click on "Customise" on the Regional Options tab
    ==> Time/Date Tabs

    I hope this helps.

    Is it all written in Urdu or the language option there is showing that it is Urdu. You can change the date & time by going in to the bios & if the whole windows is in Urdu language then you require a disc containing windows of English setup for changing the language in English. Hope this is the problem which i am discussing about. For further assistance just post it again here...!
